Tempohousing designs and builds "plug-and-play" home units with recycled shipping containers

Using recycled shipping containers has many advantages. they are easy to transport world wide, have a low cost, are flexible, are structurally very strong and have many standardised solutions for stacking.

In 2006 Tempohousing, created a 1000 unit student housing project in Amsterdam with shipping containers modified with all the amenities a student could ever want. Electricity and an Internet, café-restaurant, a supermarket, office buildings and even a sporting area.

Keetwonen has integrated a rooftop to accommodate efficient rainwater drainage. Under the roof was placed the mechanical ventilation which reduces the heat generated by the sun.

The first block was ready at September 2005 and the last block was finished in April 2006.
